Midmar 2017

Royden Tustin is raising funds for Duzi Umngeni Conservation Trust

Good day The 16 Mile Club consists of a group of ten swimmers who have been selected to participate in the 16 Mile Charity Challenge taking place concurrently with the aQuellé Midmar Mile 2017, the largest open water swimming event in the world! The primary initiative of the 16 Mile Club is to raise funds for numerous charities/beneficiaries. In support of this drive, I've officially swum across the Midmar Dam 72 times over the years (+ 115 km). For 2017, I will primarily be raising funds for the Duzi Umngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT) which is an organisation dedicated to the environmental health of the uMsunduzi and Umngeni rivers, the two biggest river systems in the Kwazulu Natal region. The reason for my cause being that these two rivers have become badly degraded through neglect and over exploitation and with increasing demands on resources, poor governance and external threats such as global climate change, these river systems will be increasingly unable to support the range of aquatic, riverine and human life which is dependent on a healthy river system. If nothing is done to improve this situation the communities that depend on them for their survival will be at future risk. It would be most appreciated if you could please support my personal humanitarian initiative to the improving of society in my small way. Thanks very much! By clicking on the “Donate” button reflected on this page, sponsors can make payment directly into the Midmar Mile Charity account by EFT/Direct Deposit. Very importantly, please note that the reference in the Message section must reflect the swimmer’s name (i.e. Royden Tustin). No one has ever become poor by giving! – Anne Frank PS… The Tax Number for DUCT is available on request.
