Katie Chambers is raising funds for Singakwenza

Hello, my name is Kate Chambers and I will be swimming the 8 mile as part of the Singakwenza Swim Team. I am a medical doctor and am currently specializing in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I have always been drawn to the awesomeness of the human body and all that it can do and this is no more evident than in the development of a baby and its delivery. Even though I do not work with babies after they have been born I am always wondering what has happened to then and where their lives may take them. Early childhood development is vital to set each child onto a path for a happy and healthy life. This is where play, love and support are so important, and this is where Sigakwenza comes in. Singakwenza, which means “We can do it” is a non-profit organization based in Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal. They aim to teach as many parents, educators and community workers as they can about the importance of learning through play, and to show them how to provide educational toys and activities using something that is readily available in South Africa- Rubbish! Polystyrene trays can be made into puzzles, yoghurt containers into shape sorters and plastic bags into skipping ropes to mention a few great ideas. They hold workshops and have a mentorship programme, helping the community educate children at the most important stage of their lives, when their brains are developing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOnvE_p Watch this video to see exactly what they do. I am very excited to be a part of this team and contribute in this small way. I do however need your help. I will be swimming all 8 of the Mdmar mile races and will be doing this to raise funds for this amazing and very important charity. Any small amount that you can contribute would be amazing and I thank you in advance! :) If you would like to donate please follow the prompts….
