Cancer, that dreaded c-word, affects us all. In memory of my Mother, an Uncle and an Aunt who have succumbed to this disease in one form or another, and in support of my Wife, my Sister, my Cousin, my Mom-In-Law, and numerous Friends who have been given the c-word diagnosis, I take on this daunting challenge of doing the 8-Mile Midmar Charity Swim. Having only started swimming at age 47, and having completed 9 Midmar Swims with a goal of 20 in a row, I must be crazy as I was never really a fitness person. However, when I completed my 8th swim, my Sister had just started chemo for breast cancer, and when I completed my 9th Swim, my Mom-In-Law was undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma. I left the Midmar Dam in February 2022 realising that 2023 will be my 10th swim, and together with Midmar's 50th Anniversary, what more does one need as motivation to raise funds for a worthy cause. With God's help, I will prevail and succeed. Any donation big or small will be most welcome. What CANSA does for cancer survivors in South Africa is outstanding. Thank you.
