| A couple of stars aligned here. 2023 is the 50th Anniversary of the Midmar Mile. 49 years ago, I was a ten-year-old boarder in Standard 2 at Merchiston and we were asked who would like do "a swim at Midmar". Without much understanding I volunteered, entered and finished. So forward to 2022, I made a call to swim this event and then the challenge of doing 8 caught my eye, especially with the prospect of raising money for a charity. After consideration I've chosen CANSA as my elected charity, as both my parents (Fred and Margie) and my Father-in-law (Doug Dunton) experienced Cancer, and this organisation does such fantastic work in this field. I'm also dedicating to this to my dear mate, Rod Bowes who fought a brave fight against this disease, but sadly yielded to it on Christmas day last year. To swim 8-miles in comparison to the pain they suffered is really nothing. Right! So, my humble request is to please donate any amount that you feel can make a difference in helping CANSA. |
