On the 9th and 10th of February I will once again be taking the plunge into Midmar Dam to raise funds for this amazing Charity. A charity close to my heart, a Charity I have worked closely with since 2011, and have tried to raise much needed funds for every year. The Charity 8 event is an amazing event in its own right, but the good it does in raising funds not only for the charity I support, but all the others is nothing short of astounding.
For those who dont know me, I started swimming the Midmar Mile in 2005, as a replacement swimmer in a family relay for my now Brother-In-Law. In 2009, at the age of 24, I was diagnosed with Cancer, had surgery, and went through my entire treatment regime, and still managed to get to the start line of the 2010 Midmar Mile. In 2010 I saw these Brave Swimmers attempting to swim 8 Miles, and decided that in 2011 I would be there alongside them. And that is how my love for this event started.
This Charity does AMAZING work. I have personally visited CHOC house in PMB and seen the work they do first hand. Every Staff member I have encountered is so passionate about not only their job, but every child that comes through their doors. But it is not only the Children that this amazing Charity offers support to, it is their families, who are also immensely effected by this terrible disease.
If you have it in your heart to give, please give via the link below. Any amounts, big or small, go a long way in helping this amazing Charity. CHOC - Keeping More Than Hope Alive.
Secondary to this, and it always is when it comes to this event and raising funds for a charity close to ones heart are personal achievements. Gone are they days of me trying to achieve any decent times accross the dam. However, on my 5th swim of this year, I will achieve the completion of my 100th Official Mile at Midmar. This has been a goal for some time, and it is quite special to be able to do it at the 50th aQuelle Midmar Mile.
