Nicole Harris is raising funds for PinkDrive

I competed in my first Midmar Mile as a little girl of 8 years of age and each year thereafter during my competitive swimming years. I was blessed with a talent for swimming and I always knew a part of me wanted to use this gift to help others and “give back”. Here I am taking part in my third 8Mile Fundraiser for PinkDrive. I see myself taking part in this event not only to create awareness or raise funds for Breast Cancer and Cancer in general, but to be a symbol of hope for those fighting their own battles against cancer and no matter the difficulty, they can show cancer “the middle finger”. So why PinkDrive? I have lost family as well as friends in the past to Breast Cancer and other forms of cancer. This year it will “hit home” for me as a person dear to me was diagnosed this past year. Fighting cancer is such a physical and mental battle that one cannot even put it into words. Some are blessed enough to have the funds for early detection and for treatment whilst others are not that fortunate. PinkDrive is the indispensable, tangible breast cancer Non-Profit Company (NPC), powering South Africa’s mobile Women’s Health Mammography and Gynaecology Units. PinkDrive’s underlying message is ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’. All PinkDrive units travel to semi-urban and urban areas around South Africa with the aim of enabling all medically uninsured access to women’s health services. These services include free education on women’s health, free mammograms, free pap smears, free clinical examinations and how to do breast self-examinations. Please sponsor me to continue making PinkDrive’s vision a reality. 80% of funds raised will go to PinkDrive while the remaining 20% will go towards all other charities taking part in the 8Mile Fundraiser.
