Well, it's that time again. Time to get wet and although I'm not pushing my body to its limits like previous years this year has its challenges for me, over the week just before the Charity 16 challenge, I will be flying to Cape Town to swim the dog leg from 3 Anchor Bay to Robben Island then to Blouberg swim.

The last time this swim was taken on was in January 2004 and hasn't been done since (A gruelling Icey 17km or so swim) Once that has been done, I will be coming back to complete the 16-mile charity swim. Totalling 42 km in one week swum.

Why you ask well it's all in the name of charity namely the Happy Bundles Non-profit organization. Happy Bundles was founded by Candice Kriel after she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer in 2020. No one ever sees it coming - Candice was a young and healthy mother of two, married.

After receiving a diagnosis like that, you are left with a lot of fear and uncertainty, but she never gave up hope! Candy could never have pulled through without the support of her family, friends and the doctors who treated her. After having to endure chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and radiation, Candice decided to give back! During her time of treatment, she was shocked and surprised by the number of young people and children I saw receiving treatment for cancer.

The most difficult and saddening part was seeing or reading stories of what these cancer patients were going through – physically and emotionally”. Children get Cancer too. Happy Bundles is a non-profit organization that brings a smile to children with Cancer.

There is no greater joy than seeing a child and their family and friends light up with joy and excitement when they receive their gifts. So, show your support us and help in making a difference and give back what Cancer has taken away from so many children with Cancer and their loved ones.
