HI everyone,
I am an enthusiastic and sporty lady who has taken on the challenge of giving my all in the upcoming 8-mile swim event. Recently, I participated in the Capital K and experienced my first day at Midmar Dam - a memorable day shared with a co-teacher, now a friend of the waters, Pam Jones.
I am a Foundation Phase Digital Literacy and Media Centre educator at Crawford International, Durban, and I have committed to the 8-mile swim to raise awareness for childhood cancer.
In 2017-2018, I was diagnosed with a complex autoimmune condition - Hashimoto’s and Hypothyroidism - which changed my life. This experience redirected me to grow, reflect, and embrace changes that allowed me to live a richer, more meaningful life. This swim is my way of expanding my heart and arms to show strength and support to those around me.
I also have a “mini-me” doll that travels with me. I use her in my teaching career to inspire my Grade 1-5 students to be brave, take risks, and step out of their comfort zones. You can find her adventures under the following #travellingteachertess.
I would love your support for this worthy cause as I prepare for a swim that holds such deep meaning for me.
