Friends of Med-Evac are raising funds for The Wild Swim

The Wild Swim Safety Plan

The safety plans for the Wild Swim are being taken very seriously and have been endorsed by Med-Evac, a leading shark specialist at the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board, experienced free divers who regularly swim with sharks, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI),  and Gordon Date, an adventure sports cameraman who will be providing aerial surveillance in directing the safety operations in association with Med-Evac, NSRI and SAPS.

The Wild Swimmers will swim in pairs of two, and shall be will be accompanied by safety kayakers, two safety boats, a fully qualified jet ski rescue operator, Siya Mchunu, and a small pod of experienced Ocean Guardian divers equipped with Freedom7 shark shields – the world’s only scientifically proven electrical shark deterrent.

About Med-Evac

Founded in 2005, and based in Port Shepstone, Med-Evac, is an accredited and highly skilled emergency rescue service is based in Port Shepstone.

As a co-sponsor, of The Wild Swim, Med-Evac is providing two safety boats and crew, and only charging for petrol and transport costs.

The Wild Swim takes place along a 22km stretch of the Wild Coast earmarked for heavy minerals mining. It aims to raise funds for eco-tourism in the area, marine conservation and associated environmental journalism training.
