Midmar 2017

Zoe Frank is raising funds for Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation

My name is Zoë Frank and I am a 14 year girl who attends Durban Girls College in KwaZulu-Natal. I have to date competed in 6 consecutive Midmar Miles where I have consistently placed between 1st and 3rd for my age group. I have also broken the age group record on two occasions, 2011/12. I was unfortunately out of the water for a year in 2015 due to a major illness. However I came back to compete in my very first event, which was the 2016 Midmar Mile and placed 2nd in the Junior Category. Despite my lack of training I was just off my time from the previous year where I also placed 2nd in the same event. In June 2016 I competed in the Four Elements Ocean Challenge, which was a grueling 6km surf-swim in inclement weather and seriously challenging surf conditions and won the woman’s open out of a combined field of 91 men and women - the purpose of the event was to raise awareness for conservation. My most recent swim was part of the Everysun Multiport Series, which included a 1.9km surf-swim and I came 2nd in the woman’s open. I am passionate about swimming and during my year of illness and inactivity I went through a process of self-actualization where I realized just how blessed I was to have access to facilities, the ability to learn to swim and a family to support me. I am attempting to swim the Midmar 8 Mile Club to raise funds for The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. The Foundation sponsored my development as a young swimmer and I truly believe in giving back. I support the primary objective of The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which is to save lives by putting an end to drowning. Therefore I aim to raise sufficient funds to support the development of young underprivileged children through the Foundations “Learn to Swim” and “Water Safety” programmes. As a member of the Midmar Mile 8 Mile Club, each participant has to raise a minimum of R10 000, which will go towards the abovementioned cause. Thanking you for your support and kind generosity, Zoë Frank
