Midmar 2017

Keren Wessels is raising funds for Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation

My name is KEREN WESSELS and I am 14 years old. I attend Ashton International College Ballito and I swim for the North Coast Dolphins Swim Team. I have a passion for swimming, for teaching others how to swim and for helping underprivileged children. I have been given the incredible opportunity to raise funds for the Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation by swimming in the Midmar 8 Mile Charity Club. Every year at the Midmar Mile, a few swimmers swim all 8 events, 4 on the Saturday and the other 4 on the Sunday, to raise funds for their chosen charities. This is no easy task. Ironically, many years ago when I first attempted to do a single-crossing of Midmar Mile, I pulled out during the race as I was convinced there were monsters ‘lurking’ beneath me.. Subsequently I have successfully completed a number of long distance open water swims, however being able to complete the Midmar mile has always been a huge dream of mine, so completing all 8 will certainly be a highlight of my swimming career. The Princess Charlene of Monaco foundation works to teach children around the world how to swim and general water safety and also gives underprivileged children the opportunity to attempt and learn many different skills and sports. Through this foundation, I have been able to pass my passion of swimming to other children in my community and have seen the positive effect this can have on underprivileged children's lives. The children I have been introduced to, have truly changed my life and I am very eager to raise funds to help contribute in changing other children's lives around the world as well as giving back to the people who have given me so much. The event takes place on 11th and 12th February 2017. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
