My name is Ruby Dixon. I'm an ex-competitive swimmer who has done the Midmar Mile for the last 9 years. I have always wanted to join the 8 Mile Club and I thought that this year would be the perfect time. 2023 is a pivotal moment for the Aquelle Midmar Mile as they host their 50th Midmar Mile event. I decided to team up with the Chad Le Clos Foundation and complete the 8 miles for their charity. In order to do this event, a minimum of R10 000 should be raised for the foundation in order to swim. The Chad Le Clos Foundation aims to reduce drowning statistics within the communities of South Africa, by giving citizens the opportunity to improve their swimming abilities. The motive behind this foundation is one that I continue to support and believe that it will bring great change to citizens of South Africa. I have attended the Chad Le Clos Foundation training camps at which they intend to raise money for the cause and the positivity in and around the pool is unmatched. Due to the fact that I have been lucky enough to swim my whole life, I felt it would only be fair for me to give back to those who never got those opportunities. The money donated to the Chad Le Clos foundation goes towards providing the essentials required to teach citizens to learn how to swim and encourage water survival skills to reduce the risk of drowning. All donations are greatly appreciated and myself and the Chad Le Clos Foundation are excited to see the outcomes.
