Each year the Midmar Mile is held in February at the Midmar Dam north of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It is the world's largest open water swimming event. It draws thousands of competitors, from serious international athletes and Olympic medallists to purely recreational swimmers. The 8 Mile entails swimming all 8 events, 4 mils a day over 2 days every 75 minutes.
I've been swimming the Midmar since 2009 when I was 10 years old. I completed my 4th 8 Mile in 2020 being my 12th consecutive year and a virtual swim from Australia as my 13th consecutive year in 2021, reaching 45 crossings since 2009.
In 2024, a few days after my 25th birthday I will be completing my 5th 8 Mile event aiming again to raise money for charity. In lieu of birthday gifts please support me in raising money for the Chad Le Clos Foundation.
