Andrew O'Mahony is raising funds for Singakwenza

Singakwenza, meaning “We can do it!”, is a non-profit organisation based in Kwa-Zulu Natal which aims to build sustainable Early Childhood Education programmes in economically disadvantaged communities, using recycling to make resources.

We focus on the critical development years in a child’s life (between 1 and 5 years). Research around the world has shown that the best way to break the poverty cycle is through education, but our South African education system is in a crisis:
· Less than 50% of the children who start Grade 1 make it to Matric.
· Of those who do stay in school until Matric, a quarter of them are not able to attain the 30% pass mark.
· The Annual National Assessment (ANA) results every year show that the average Maths result of a child in Grade 5 is between 30 and 40%, and by Grade 9 is between 10 and 20%.
· The World Economic Forum has consistently placed South Africa last in the world in Maths and Science education.

We CAN change this!
