Midmar 2019

Brendan OHagan is raising funds for Mandeville Disability Swimming

I will be swimming all 8 miles in February 2019 to raise funds for a disability swimming club, Mandeville Disability Swimming [MDS]. I would like to personally raise as much as I can so I am leaning on my greater network to support this initiative, within their means. Over the past few years I have come to know the Mandeville community well, and you have my assurance that this charity is well governed and is an extremely worthy cause.

MDS has as its primary objective the development of swimming in Central Gauteng’s disability communities at all levels.

With a grass-roots focus on schools for children with a physical disability, mainly in black communities, MDS supports programs for:

  1. Learn to SwimTM - Every person who learns to swim represents a life potentially saved
  2. Swimming talent identification and development
  3. Preparation of elite swimmers for SA Nationals, World Championships and Paralympics

The project to create a centre of excellence for disability swimming at MDS began in 2009 and has developed well during the following years, though not without challenges, many of them financial. The average cost of supporting one swimmer through the swimming year amounts to almost R20 000.

Your donation will go a long way to supporting the MDS  objectives.
